Yachts in the 78-foot (24-meter) size range have long been considered entry-level superyachts for good reason. They’re large enough to suit longer periods onboard, feature more sophisticated equipment, and offer luxuries you simply don’t find among smaller boats. Plus, their builders are more willing to push the envelope with features that are pioneering or otherwise more exclusive. The Ferretti Yachts Infynito 80 yacht series, the second model in the new Infynito range, brings all these concepts together. Try these six facts on for size.

All-Season Terrace
When hull number one, which launched in August, debuted at last month’s Cannes Yachting Festival, the All-Season Terrace was the talk of the dock. It’s a 140-square-foot (13-square-meter) covered bow lounge. Accessible via the side decks, it’s akin to the foredeck cocktail areas so many much larger megayachts have. Yet, it’s so much more private, thanks to a choice of a solid overhead or louvered overhead. Additionally, the All-Season Terrace offers two different configurations. The standard design includes a hi-lo table for dining. The optional version replaces the table with barstools. Either way, a glass panel abutting it slides open, into the galley. Also, fresh breezes keep you cool thanks to the open sides.

Open or Partially Open Sundeck
The Ferretti Yachts Infynito 80 yacht series comes with either a partially enclosed sundeck or a hardtop-shaded sundeck. Owners planning to enjoy long-range cruising—the megayacht can cover 1,000 nautical miles at 11 knots—might want the former. It can be fully enclosed and climate-controlled, too, with the addition of optional see-through panels aft. The sundeck caters to all-day enjoyment thanks to a dining area for eight, an outdoor galley, and lots of open space for sunlounges and loose furnishiings.
Solar Panels
With the solid All-Season Terrace roof, Ferretti Yachts can install solar panels. They complement standard solar panels further on the hardtop over the sundeck. The photovoltaic panels feed a battery bank permitting air conditioning and other hotel loads to run at anchor for up to eight hours. Importantly, the Ferretti Group Engineering Department created a RINA-certifiedfire-extinguishing system for the lithium batteries. Briefly, the batteries sit in two watertight steel containers in the engine room with temperature sensors. If the sensors detect the extreme temperatures concurrent with a fire, a pump floods the containers with sea water. Separately, a system ventilates the containers to keep them from overheating. These are significant, since to date no classification society requires lithium-specific fire-fighting apparatuses.

Stern Settee
Since so many owners and guests love to lounge waterside, why not give them a permanent front-row seat? Or, in the case of the Infynito 80 yacht, a built-in transom settee. Overall, 194 square feet (18 square meters) of beach-club-like space and stowage awaits. When the sea beckons, it’s easy enough to slip into the water via the swim ladder or lowering swim platform. The same swim platform doubles as a tender lift.

FSC Materials
Yacht owners increasingly are becoming more mindful of everything that goes into their project. This includes interior décor materials. Ferretti Yachts and the interior-design studio Ideaitalia selected recycled leather, natural stones and woods, plus recycleable other materials. Furthermore, water-based paints and lamellar teak both meet FSC certification. FSC is the Forestry Stewardship Council, a non-profit promoting responsible management of trees and proper treatment of communities relying on forests. The certified materials appear throughout the staterooms and lounges adhering to either of the two décor packages as well. There’s the warm, earthy Classic mood and the sea-hues-inspired Contemporary mood.

Raised Pilothouse
Lastly, the Ferretti Yachts Infynito 80 yacht has a raised pilothouse. Clearly, this elevated helm isn’t a novel design feature. However, raised pilothouses are rarities in the superyacht sector. Ferretti Yachts easily could have left the single helm on the sundeck. Instead, it gave practical consideration to the captain and crew, affording them additional good visibility in climate-controlled comfort. The fast-displacement Infynito 80 a 15-knot cruise with the standard MANs, 17 knots with the optional MANs. If the captain and crew are mindful of fuel consumption, they’ll appreciate yet another practical approach Ferretti Yachts says that, based on May to September cruising, using the battery saves 1,585 gallons (6,000 liters) of diesel fuel. Put another way, the shipyard indicates, that’s 83 percent fuel savings. (Generally speaking, megayachts consume the majority of their fuel running gensets at anchor or the dock, not underway.)
It’s all part of deliberately pushing the envelope in a size range where few risk takers exist.
