Few owners of megayachts in the 130-foot realm expect their yachts to achieve a range in excess of 5,000 nautical miles. However, the owner of Project MG 129 is no ordinary owner. For instance, he has a mini armada of yachts. Furthermore, he is intent on true globetrotting, in varying conditions. Therefore, he turned to Cantiere delle Marche to make his newest fleet member a reality.
At 129 feet (39.42 meters), the code-named Project MG129 is for an owner’s party of 12 and crew head count of seven. Five staterooms take care of the former, while four cabins accommodate the latter. Bearing a 25’6” (7.8-meter) beam, the yacht will include the customary luxuries of a custom superyacht. For instance, the upper deck will cater to sunning and lounging when the tender stowed there goes in the water. The owner purposely wants the tender here, by the way, versus in a garage.
Related to this, Cantiere delle Marche cites an interesting statistic from analysis of owners’ time onboard. The statistic holds that tenders remain in the water 93 percent of the time when owners are cruising. As a result, it makes more sense to devote garage space to smaller watertoys, dive gear, and the like, rather than more cumbersome craft.
In terms of design, the shipyard isn’t revealing information on decor. It does say, though, that Francesco Paszkowski Design is working with the owner. While this is a first-time collaboration between that studio and the shipyard, the owner has tapped the design team for four other yachts in recent years.
Paszkowski is additionally handling styling, with Hydro Tec responsible for naval architecture. In typical Cantiere delle Marche fashion, Project MG 129 will be overbuilt, using 12mm steel hull plates vs. the 5mm classification standard. The yard also insists on employing cupronickel for pipes, vs. PVC, and independent rudders, which commercial ships employ. (For more details, see “Shipyard Spotlight: Cantiere delle Marche.”) In addition, Project MG 129 should see the above-mentioned range at 9 knots, under MTU power. Cruising speed should be just shy of 13 knots, meanwhile. Top speed should be 14½ knots.
