Even though 2015 is barely a few days old, already it’s shaping up to be the Year of the 100-Meter-Plus megayacht. There are a number of motoryachts and sailing yachts in this size range in build for owners around the world, several of which should be handed over in the next few months. Here’s a look at the five biggest megayacht deliveries set for 2015:
- White Pearl. This secretive project has been kept mostly quiet since signing by Nobiskrug about three years ago. Her LOA has been listed alternately as 458 feet (139.6 meters) and 482 feet (147 meters). White Pearl is an extraordinary yacht of any kind—but when you consider she’s a sailing yacht, she becomes all the more significant. Upon delivery, the month of which is still confidential, White Pearl will officially be the largest sailing yacht in the world. By comparison, she’ll make the 289-foot (88-meter) Maltese Falcon, which currently holds the distinction, look downright small.
- Privilege One. If you’re going to build a yacht, go big. That’s the philosophy of Privilege Yard, established in Civitavecchia, Italy in 2008 to build 100-meter-plus yachts. Privilege One (above) is its first motoryacht, styled by Laraki Yacht Design. The yard’s management team isn’t new to the industry, though, having been involved in the construction of a number of mega-size projects, starting with the then-Trump Princess (now Kingdom 5KR). Privilege One is 416’7” (127 meters), comprised of 10 decks. As if the four-car garage weren’t impressive enough, she has a billiards room, nine elevators, and an observation lounge in her bulbous bow. The owner’s suite includes a private dining area and spa, plus a capacious alfresco area. Each of the 12 guest suites have fold-down balconies, plus the beds are mounted on gyroscopic platforms to self-stabilize underway.
- Tatiana. Tatiana is likely just the project name for a 410-foot (125-meter) megayacht in build at Lürssen. Like many of the yard’s contracts, she’s been under strict confidentiality agreements.
- Ulysses. Kleven, a commercial shipyard in Norway, is about five months from delivering this project to Graeme and Robin Hart, New Zealanders who have previously owned yachts named Ulysses. This Ulysses (above), however, is the Harts’ largest to date, measuring 351 feet (107 meters). Her build and design team call her an expedition support vessel. Ulysses will carry a 69-foot (21-meter) tender so that the owners and guests can explore close to shore. They’ll also have a helicopter at their disposal. Interesting enough, the Harts have already commissioned a second, larger yacht from Kleven, to measure 380’6” (116 meters).
- Poseidonos. Why build new when you can convert an existing mega-size vessel? The 347’8” (106-meter) Poseidonos is a former passenger ferry built in Turkey in 1997. She was taken to an undisclosed yard in Athens, Greece for the reconstruction several years ago. Interior design is by Italy-based Ciarmoli Queda Studio, which specializes in residential and commercial architecture. Multiple indoor and outdoor dining areas, 23 guest staterooms and 19 crew cabins (all above decks), and of course a private cinema are among the highlights.
